Pp. 46–67 in (Natascha Süder Happelmann) Natascha Sadr Haghighian, Franciska Zolyom, Ernest Ah, eds. Beyond Repair. Berlin: Archive Books (2020).
Based on a lecture given as part of the programming for “Beyond Repair,” the German Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale. The lecture was held at LUAV University of Venice IT on 17 June 2019. An all-day seminar followed as part of the adjacent study gathering organised by the German Pavillion, University of the Arts Bremen, and Università luav di Venezia. The essay offers some historical context for the European border regime and the struggles against it, which involve going back in time to the story of the origins of modern Western capitalism.
